France, Slovenia to host 2023 ski world championships

COSTA NAVARINO, Greece (AP) Neighboring French resorts Meribel and Courchevel have been picked to host the 2023 Alpine Skiing world championships.

The International Ski Federation says the joint bid won a 9-6 vote to stage the biennial event over the only other candidate, Saalbach in Austria.

Slovenian venue Planica also won a 9-6 vote, over Norway's Trondheim, as it was chosen as host of the 2023 Nordic world championships.

Georgia will stage a ski world championships for the first time. Bakuriani in the former Soviet Republic was a unanimous pick for the 2023 freestyle ski and snowboard worlds.

FIS says Vikersund in Norway was awarded the 2022 worlds in ski flying.
