Hector Barbera, born Nov. 2, 1986, in the town of Dos Aguas on the outskirts of Valencia, made his MotoGP debut in 2010 on a Ducati with the Jorge Martínez-run Aspar Racing Team. And although both team and rider were competing in their rookie season in the premier class, Barberá finished the year with consistent performances, finishing 12th in the final standings. The Spaniard has had a long association with compatriot Jorge Martínez and, under his eye, began his 125cc foray in 2002. In just two years, he finished second in the class with an Aprilia, a feat he repeated five years later in the 250cc category. The relationship between the two prompted Martínez to be confident enough to run the rider as a sole entry in MotoGP in its debut year.
