Summary: The first race after a summer break brought with it smart tyre strategy. It was enough to give Marc Marquez a win and all-important points that extended his championship lead. The Spaniard started the race with softer rear wet weather tyre unlike the rest of the pack. It was a last minute swap that paid off in the end. Then, very early in the race swapped his bike out for one with wet weather tyres.

Teammate Pedrosa managed to get a second place while Vinales finally redeemed himself with a 3rd.

All important points all around, though, with Marquez leading the championship with 154 points, which is 14 points ahead of Vinales.

What will the next race bring? We will know next weekend in Spielberg, Austria.
Lap 22: Marquez starts his final lap as does Pedrosa and Vinales. The real battle though is at 4th place. Smith retires. Rossi takes the inside and passes Crutchlow. But will the Brit fight back. He isn't going to give it up that easy. Rossi manages to make it stick. MARQUEZ WINS THE RACE!
Lap 21: Dovi trying to catch Petrucci. Every point is precious. Rossi puts in his personal best lap in an attempt to catch Crutchlow. He is close, but just about. Rossi makes an attempt to pass but decides to wait a bit. He may have another go soon. Dovi passes Petrucci to collect some all-important championship points.
Lap 20: Vinales sitting pretty in his 3rd place. He has managed to keep pace and seems content, for now. Rossi still playing catch up. Crutchlow managing to keep the gap between the two. Pedrosa clocks in a last-minute fastest lap.
Lap 19: Rossi is picking up pace and closing in on Crutchlow. Are we going to see a last minute battle here?
Lap 18: Rossi and Petrucci cross the line almost side by side. Vinales clocks in fastest lap. Rossi passes Petrucci and now eyes Crutchlow. Marquez still runs a lonely race with his teammate 19s behind him.
Lap 17: Meanwhile Petrucci gives way to Crutchlow who takes 4th place. Baz crashes out at T7. Rossi has picked up pace and is lining up to pass Petrucci.
Lap 16: Marquez and Pedrosa are still way ahead of the rest of the pack.
Lap 15: Rossi is now eyeing Aleix. Meanwhile race direction says A. Espargaro to drop 3 positions due to unsafe release in pit lane. That is unfortunate. Vinales passes Petrucci and takes 3rd place. Rossi now has Crutchlow Petrucci and Vinales in his sights. Is it too late to fight for podium?
Lap 14: Bautista crashes out. Rider ok. Loses his front end. That was a fast crash. Rossi takes a peek and passes Karel Abraham and sets his sight on Redding. Will manage to catch up? Rossi passes Redding at T10 who goes a tad wide.
Lap 13: Petrucci takes back his 3rd place and makes it stick. Folger clocks in the fastest lap. Crutchlow passes Aleix who takes a quick look even as Vinales passes him.
Lap 12: Pedrosa is catching up slowly. Dovi meanwhile clocks in the fastest lap. He has some serious pace. Petrucci and Aleix battle it out for 3rd place, changing places. Crutchlow joins the fight. Crutchlow wants a podium too! He won here last year and wants to repeat that success.
Lap 11: Crutchlow and Petrucci have a bit of a moment. Pedrosa clocks in the fastest lap. Rossi playing catch up and manages to pick up pace. Next on his list is Jack Miller. Petrucci passes Redding to take 4th. Crutchlow now lines up Redding.
Lap 10: Pedrosa now sets about catching his teammate. Rossi has meanwhile finally managed to make it past Baz and up to 11th place. Don't forget, a mere 10 championship points separated Rossi from Marquez. Looks like that lead will get extended quite substantially.
Lap 9: Rossi is still trying his best to get past Pol Esp He has a ways away. Marquez is quite comfortable up ahead and is busy extending his astounding lead. Pedrosa takes a peek at Aleix and is chomping at the bit. He passes Aleix smooth as butter.
Lap 8: Marquez still in the lead, all by himself. 19 second ahead of everyone else. Now that is called brilliant strategy. Rossi is trying to get past Pol Esp and get himself a 12th place. Who would have thought it! Marquez meanwhile opens up a 20 sec lead.
Lap 7: Zarco pits and now rejoins the race. Redding meanwhile is in second place. Aleix Esp and Redding battling for second place right now.
Lap 6: Rossi pits and swaps his bike. As does Dovi. Zarco still in the lead. They exit and rejoin the race. Marquez now leads the race. He also clocks in the fastest lap at 1:58.293. Incident involving Iannone and Espargaro in the pit lane under investigation. Not really sure what happened there.
Lap 5: Marquez is lapping 10s faster than Rossi. Looks like he made the right move. Clocks in the fastest lap. The Spaniard is catching up on the Italian. Rossi, Zarco and Dovi have to swap their bikes. Rossi's team is looking quite anxious. Will he come in this lap? And is it a couple of laps too late?
Lap 4: Iannone crashes in the pit lane during the bike swap. Teams are making box calls for tyre change. Everyone is trickling in. Rossi, meanwhile, leads the race. But he needs to swap their bikes. Lorenzo enters the pits as well. Mostly everyone except Rossi is in the pits.
Lap 3: Marquez goes in and does a quick bike swap. Now on full slicks. As does Folger and Miller. They have all rejoined the race. Rossi is now less than a sec behind Lorenzo who is still in the lead. Meanwhile, Redding entered the pits.
Lap 2: Lorenzo has established quite the lead. He is getting away. Rossi takes a peek at Dovizioso and then decides to bide his time. Rossi makes his move and in one move takes 2nd place. Dovi fights and takes Marquez's place who is paying the price for his tyre choice. Has he made a mistake? He is on rear slicks! Marquez is slipping and slipping right down to 10th while Lorenzo clocks in the fastest lap.
Lap 1: And the race is a go. Many anxious eyes looking up at the sky as this has been declared a wet race. Riders are allowed to swap bikes at any moment. Marquez is in the lead with Lorenzo in 2nd. Rossi slips back in 4th. Lorenzo leads the Czech GP! Marquez closely behind.
